Initiatives

In order to achieve its goal of holistic development of children, Ankur Pratishthan has undertaken several unique initiatives. Ankur Pratishthan’s body of work can be roughly divided into 2 segments: Regular Sunday-to-Sunday activities through which Talent Identification & Grooming of children is carried out; and signature initiatives which provide further enrichment. Ankur Pratishthan provides training to children in as many as 42 topics which fall under the following broad categories:

Innovation has been at the centre-stage of Ankur Pratishthan’s operations throughout its journey. We are always on the look-out for novel approaches to existing problems. The solutions which exhibited the most promising results have been painstakingly developed into Signature Initiatives. They are as follows:

Project Vikas

After identification of talent and initial grooming of children to develop their inherent skills, we move to the next stage of their development. Under Project Vikas we provide advanced training from recognized institutions or established field experts to prepare the children for competitive levels, and eventual self-reliance. The training provided under this initiative is customized to cater to the needs of each child and may include subjects from the domains of sports, fine arts, performing arts, competitive examinations, etc.

Project Saksham

The disparity between the number of CCIs and After-Care Institutions is alarming. This is a major cause for concern as most of the children— who inevitably leave the CCIs on turning 18— are forced directly into the mainstream society whereby they face issues with reintegration.

It is to tackle this very problem that we started Project Saksham. Under this initiative, we provide continued support, counselling, training and scholarships to children who graduate from the CCIs to help them blend into the society as self-reliant, respectable & contributing citizens.

Matrubhoomi Parichay Shibir

Love is born from respect and respect in turn from knowledge. You cannot truly love something unless you truly know it— not just through verbose expositions of a third party but through personal experiential realization. So when we say that we would love for our children to share our love for our nation, without any doubt the first stage of developing such a love would be for the children to see with their own eyes— our nation in all its glory! Matrubhoomi Parichay Shibir does just that! From rural lifestyle to agricultural practices to India’s biodiversity and rich cultural history— our children experience it all first hand through these unique rural residential camps

Project Anubhooti

What a trailer is to a movie; Anubhooti is to Ankur Pratishthan’s work! Anubhooti is our unique social internship programme under which we provide four weeks of hands-on experience— a glimpse of the vast expanse of our work— to handpicked interns from reputed higher educational institutions after a day-long orientation. The fact that a good number of these interns continue working with Ankur Pratishthan after the completion of the programme reflects the success of this initiative. The primary objective of Project Anubhooti is to create a living sense of empathy and social consciousness among the current youth of India.

Library at Doorsteps

“Books are my favourite friends, and I consider my home library, with many thousand books, to be my greatest wealth. Every new book, based on some new idea inspires me and gives me a new thought to ponder.” —Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

From the wisdom of the sentient beasts of Panchatantra to the adventures of brave sea farers of bygone ages, from crafty wizards and hidden treasures to an encyclopediac range of information — Books offer us a lot!

Through our Library at Doorsteps Initiative, we have made hundreds of books in English, Hindi and Marathi from across various genres accessible to our children at their fingertips! Our well catalogued library listing can be accessed through the mobile application and once a request for a book has been made, we deliver it at their doorsteps! No hassle, no worries— sheer joy of reading!

Project Manas

WHO’s Health Report 2001 suggested that nearly one in four people will be in need of psychological help at some point in their life, yet nearly two-thirds of those people never get help from a healthcare professional either due to social stigma or sheer neglect. Despite several campaigns and global initiatives, mental health remains to be one of the areas where much ground needs to be covered.

In the case of children who live at CCIs, psychological health can be a cause for much concern yet it goes largely unaddressed. Project Manas is a step forward in the direction of combating this problem. After psychological evaluation and profiling, we intend to provide our beloved children timely access to professional counselling, remedial education, and training to truly strengthen their minds.

Project Adhyayan

Designed as an initiative to promote conceptual understanding and activity-based learning; Project Adhyayan gives the idea of ‘Fun & Learn’ a whole new meaning! The activities under this initiative have been so designed that children not only enjoy the subject being taught but also fall in love with the process of learning itself thereby realizing the importance of studies in a person’s life.
